This tachi is said to be one of the Five Great Swords of Japan and is believed to have been crafted by Aoe Tsunetsugu. It is said that Nichiren, a monk of the Kamakura period, carried it for self-defense, and the name is said to derive from the fact that a rosary was wrapped around its hilt. With his eyes cast down as if in prayer, it is difficult to discern the subtleties of his inner thoughts.
