One of the "Three Great Spears," this spear was forged by Gojo Yoshisuke, a swordsmith from Shimada in Suruga Province. It features a massive, pestle-shaped scabbard—crafted specifically to draw attention to its name—that was commissioned for use during the Sankin-koutai (alternate attendance) processions. Designed with a singular focus on thrusting attacks, it shares a close bond with the wakizashi that serves as its support.
