A wakizashi crafted by Awataguchi Yoshimitsu, a swordsmith active during the Kamakura period. Originally a ko-naginata (short naginata), it was subsequently shortened and reshaped into a wakizashi. Possessing a strong will, he sometimes admonishes his master to ensure—this time, at least—that he is not consumed by fire.
